Leno Asks McCain How Many Houses He Has, McCain Answers With POW Status (VIDEO)
By: Roxanna Arning  on: Tue 26 of Aug, 2008 [14:47 UTC]
While Ted Kennedy, Michelle Obama and the Obama's daughters were wowing Denver at the DNC, John McCain was sitting down with Jay Leno and bringing up his years as a POW at unexpected moments.

Making light of McCain's inability to put a number on his real estate holdings last week, Leno joked with the Republican nominee that, "for one million dollars, how many houses do you have?"

Rather than reply with either a real answer or a similarly light-hearted joke, McCain brought up his POW status.

"Could I just mention to you Jay, that in a moment of seriousness, I spent five and a half years in a prison cell, I didn't have a house, I didn't have a kitchen table, I didn't have a table, I didn't have a chair..."

Racism sparking assassination plots - Aryan Nation involvment
By: Roxanna Arning  on: Tue 26 of Aug, 2008 [13:50 UTC]
"He don't belong in political office. Blacks don't belong in political office. He ought to be shot," Johnson told CBS4 news reporter Brian Maass.
From the Denver Post
Three men were arrested on drug charges in Aurora, Denver and Glendale - one of them carrying weapons that authorities said may have been intended for use in "credible threat" against Barack Obama.
Authorities refused to detail the reasons they were investigating a possible plot, though law enforcement sources said the men may be part of an Aryan Nation group.
U.S. Attorney Troy Eid, who said he may have more to say Tuesday afternoon, insisted that Obama, and visitors for the Democratic National Convention were never in danger.
"We can say this: We're absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate, the Democratic National Convention, or the people of Colorado," Eid said.
It began early Sunday, when a rented Dodge pickup being driven by Tharin Gartrell, 28, was pulled over in Aurora for suspicion of drunk driving. Authorities then saw two rifles in the truck, with a high-power scope, a bullet proof vest, a walkie talkie and several boxes of ammunition and some methamphetamine.
When police accompanied Gartrell to his room in Glendale at the Cherry Creek Hotel, 600 South Colorado Blvd., a second man jumped from a sixth-floor window, landed on an awning four floors down and then hit the ground, breaking his ankle, Glendale Police Chief Victor Ross said.
That man, later identified as Shawn Robert Adolf, 33, was arrested on outstanding warrants and was being held on $1 million bond. Police also arrested a third man, Nathan Johnson, at a hotel at I-25 and Belleview, he also is being held on outstanding drug warrants.
"This whole thing started with a traffic stop in Aurora," Ross said. "Weapons and meth were recovered."
Ross said local authorities turned the information over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Fireams and Explosives and the U.S. Secret Service.
He said that during interviews the Secret Service determined there was "credible threat" from the individuals directed toward Obama.
Ross declined to specify what exactly authorities had found in the hotel rooms other than to say an unspecified amount of methamphetamines had been confiscated.
"There were a lot of things that indicated they were here for reasons we would not want them to be here," Ross said. "There were other items that caused officers concern. There was other material that caused officers concern."
At an evening press briefing, Aurora Police spokesman Marcus Dudley said police were concerned about the weapons and the unexplained connections between the men.
"Behavior like this can be characterized as highly suspicious, the ammo, the weapons, clearly would give us great concern," Dudley said.

Another law enforcement source said authorities were investigating whether the men were connected to a motorcycle club, Sons of Silence.
The FBI and ATF are investigating, Ross said, but federal authorities were refusing to release details.

"The matter continues to be under investigation. We'll provide more information as it becomes available," Eid said.
A myspace.com page under the name Tharin Roberts shows numerous photographs of Gartrell.
The web page says that Tharin Roberts is a professional disc jockey for nightclubs who lives in Denver. The page also says his favorite movies include Lord of the Rings and Assassins.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation records show Gartrell has a criminal record dating back to 2005 with arrests for aggravated vehicle theft, drug possession and distributing drugs.

Wow, Is it really that bad that Barack is half black? These people need to grow up

Uninsured To Spend $30 Billion Out Of Pocket On Medical Care This Year: Study

Americans who lack health insurance will spend about $30 billion out of pocket on medical care this year, but others - mainly the government - will end up covering another $56 billion in costs, according to a new study.

The tab to cover all the uninsured would be $208.6 billion - $122.6 billion more than this year's projected total - mainly because people with insurance tend to use more health-care services, the study found.

The report from researchers at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., and the Urban Institute think tank in Washington, D.C., is to be published Monday in the journal Health Affairs online.

So, where is the money for national health care? We are already spending it...

Afghan leader fires top general, says over 89 civilians killed
By: Roxanna Arning  on: Mon 25 of Aug, 2008 [03:37 UTC]

KABUL — President Hamid Karzai fired Sunday the top army general for western Afghanistan and a commando commander after a military operation involving air strikes that he said had killed more than 89 civilians.

In a decree, Karzai "orders the immediate removal" of General Jalandar Shah Behnam, head of the corps for western Afghanistan, and Major Abdul Jabar, a statement from the president's office said.

The move came after the incident in Azizabad village in the western province of Herat on Friday involving air strikes by the US-led coalition targeted at Taliban militants, it said.

"In the tragic air strike and irresponsible and imprecise military operation in Azizabad village ... more than 89 of our innocent countrymen, including women and children, were martyred," the statement said.

The interior ministry previously put the death toll at 76, including around 50 children and 19 women.

The coalition has insisted only 30 militants were killed but has said it is looking into the incident.

An investigation team set up by Karzai was in the area on Sunday to meet locals and find out what had happened.

Karzai had also ordered the two men he had sacked to Kabul for investigation, the statement said, giving no other details.

If the toll is confirmed, it would be one of the deadliest for civilians since international troops arrived in Afghanistan in 2001 and toppled the hardline Taliban regime now waging a growing insurgency.

The Beautiful Sound of Wind Turbine Generators
By: Roxanna Arning  on: Sun 24 of Aug, 2008 [13:19 UTC]

Seems pretty quiet to me. But yet there are plenty of people that complain of "noise they cannot escape" that is "deep in my head"...
Hmmm, could this be the equivalent of a dog whistle, and only some people hear the noise, or are they just upset about the construction and find anything they can throw at the windfarms? Maybe these are the "whiners" that former Senator and McCain advisor Phil Gramm was speaking of.....

WASHINGTON — An Alliant Techsystems (ATK) ALV-X1 suborbital rocket carrying two NASA hypersonic flight experiments was destroyed by range officials shortly after its Friday launch from the U.S. space agency's Wallops Flight Facility on Virginia's eastern shore.

NASA officials said no injuries or property damage were immediately reported following the launch failure. While most of the debris from the rocket is thought to have fallen into the Atlantic Ocean, NASA said it had received conflicting reports of debris being sighted on land.

"NASA is very disappointed in this failure but has directed its focus on protecting public safety and conducting a comprehensive investigation to identify the root cause," NASA said in a press release. "NASA is assembling a multidiscipline team, along with the rocket's maker Alliant Tech Systems, or ATK, of Salt Lake City, to begin the investigation promptly."

The launch occurred at 5:10 a.m. EDT (0810 GMT) after an extremely smooth countdown, mission managers said.

Kent Rominger, vice president for advanced programs at ATK Space Systems, told reporters the experimental rocket lifted off as expected but veered off course, prompting range officials to trigger the vehicle command destruct safety mechanism 27 seconds into the flight. Rominger said the rocket had reached an altitude of approximately 11,000 feet to 12,000 feet (3,300 meters to 3,600 meters) by the time it was destroyed.

The launch marked the first and only flight of the ALV-X1, a rocket ATK built and paid for to test various proprietary technologies Rominger declined to identify. NASA's Hypersonic Boundary Layer Transition (HYBOLT) and the Sub-Orbital? Aerodynamic Re-entry Experiment (SOAREX) payloads were on board the nearly 55-foot (17-meter) tall rocket.
50 children among 76 killed in coalition air strikes in Afghanistan

KABUL -
At least 76 Afghan civilians, including
50 children, were killed
Friday and scores of others were wounded in U.S-led Coalition airstrikes in western Afghanistan, the country’s Interior Ministry said Saturday. "Seventy-six civilians, including women and children, were martyred in Coalition forces' operations in Herat Province on Friday," the ministry said in a statement.

Ikramuddin Yawar, police commander of the western zone, confirmed that around 50 children aged between 12 and 18 were among those killed in the bombardment, which took place in the Nawabad area of the Shindand district. Afghan President Hamid Karzai expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and said the operation was not coordinated with Afghan forces. Meanwhile, the U.S.-led Coalition forces said in a statement that they killed 30 militants including Mullah Sadiq, a Taliban commander, in an operation Friday in the same district.
So a successful airstrike for the coalition is a 2 for 1 deal, 2 innocent civillians (any age) for each "militant" - that is sick.
